Secretary Of State Visit to A1 Scrap Yard
A1 Metal Recycling Hosts DEFRA and Brent Council as Part of National Fly-Tipping Crackdown
A1 Metal Recycling was proud to welcome Steve Reed OBE, Secretary of State for DEFRA, Mary Creagh CBE, Under-Secretary of State, and Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, to its site this week as part of a coordinated national effort to tackle illegal fly-tipping.
The visit, led by Claire Djemal, Operations Manager, and Sebastian Ciaston, Assistant Yard Manager, showcased the company’s pivotal role in supporting enforcement action against environmental crime. The delegation, accompanied by their teams, toured the facility and witnessed firsthand the destruction of a seized vehicle involved in fly-tipping—an operation carried out by A1 Metal Recycling in close collaboration with Brent Council and DEFRA.
The vehicle, seized within the Borough of Brent, was tracked on camera from the point of confiscation to its final destruction at the A1 Metal Recycling site. This footage forms part of DEFRA’s ongoing public awareness campaign to highlight the serious consequences of illegal waste dumping.
As the designated contractor for all seized vehicles in Brent, A1 Metal Recycling plays a key role in the borough’s efforts to keep streets clean and hold offenders accountable. This successful partnership underlines the effectiveness of joined-up working between local authorities, national government, and responsible private sector operators.
“We were honoured to host the Secretary of State, Under-Secretary, and Councillor Butt,” said Claire Djemal. “Their visit reinforces the importance of strong collaboration in tackling fly-tipping and promoting responsible waste management.”
Further content from the visit, including behind-the-scenes footage from the yard, is expected to be featured across TV and social media in the coming week.
